Black Cohosh is a flowering perennial, native to many parts of Canada and the United States. It thrives in old-growth coastal forests and regions of considerable biodiversity. The vast majority of the world’s black cohosh is produced and cultivated in the United States and Canada. The plant grows between three and six feet, with a stem that is clustered with tiny white flowers. Red clover (Trifolium Pratence) is a perennial herb 20–80 cm tall that commonly grows wild in meadows throughout Europe and Asia, and has now been naturalized to grow in North America. The red flowers at the end of the branched stems are usually dried for therapeutic use. Red clover is a source of many nutrients including calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, and vitamin C. Red clover is a rich source of isoflavones (chemicals that act like estrogens). Ginseng is any one of eleven species of slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots. It is native to cool and shady hardwood forests from Quebec to Minnesota, south to Georgia and Oklahoma. Panax ginseng has been harvested for many years and is now quite rare. Red ginseng derives its name from the color that it takes on during a special preservation method that involves being steamed (and then sometimes sun dried) with the peel intact. During the drying process the root is steeped in a bath of an ancient, and often protected herbal recipe, which includes a combination of honey or wine and this process causes the root to become brittle in texture.*
