Chaparral (Larrea tridentata) is an evergreen shrub growing to 3.3 to 9.8 ft tall, rarely 13 ft. The stems of the plant bear dark green leaves with two opposite lanceolate leaflets joined at the base. The flowers are up to 0.98 in in diameter, with five yellow petals.*

Our chaparral liquid herbal supplement is a natural product derived from the creosote bush (Larrea tridentata) and is recommended for external use. While chaparral has been traditionally used for its potential health benefits, it is important to be aware of potential risks and side effects associated with its use.

Potential Risks of Internal Use:

Liver Toxicity: Chaparral contains compounds known as nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) and sesquiterpene lactones, which have been associated with hepatotoxicity (liver toxicity) in some individuals. Prolonged or excessive internal use of chaparral may increase the risk of liver damage or liver failure.

Kidney Damage: Some cases of kidney damage, have been reported in individuals who have ingested chaparral supplements.

Gastrointestinal Upset: Chaparral ingestion may cause gastrointestinal side effects that may be indicative of toxicity and should be taken seriously.

Important Note: Due to these potential risks, internal use of chaparral is not recommended without the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional! Individuals with pre-existing liver or kidney conditions, pregnant or nursing women, and children should avoid internal use of chaparral altogether.
