This is a whole-tuber liquid extract, offered in two forms - an alcohol-free glycerite and a traditional alcohol-based tincture - each from carefully sourced raw material. Wild yam naturally contains plant compounds called saponins, including one called diosgenin, which we mention only as a matter of composition. It is worth clarifying up front that this is a herbal extract taken by mouth, not a wild yam cream and not a hormone product. This is a whole-tuber extract that carries the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated single compound, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.

What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?

Both are liquid extracts of the same Dioscorea villosa tuber; only the solvent differs. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. Both deliver the tuber's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Second, cream: you may have seen wild yam sold as a topical cream; our product is instead a liquid extract taken by mouth, not a cream. Third, food: the medicinal wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) is different from the starchy edible yams you cook with (such as Dioscorea alata), and it is also different from the sweet potato, which is often labeled "yam" in North American grocery stores.
