Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) is a tall, aromatic perennial of the daisy or aster family (Asteraceae), commonly called common mugwort. The part used here is the herb - the leafy aerial parts. Mugwort has a long history as a culinary and aromatic bitter herb: in European cooking it has traditionally been used to season rich, fatty foods, and in Japan it is known as yomogi and used in foods such as mochi.

  •

WHOLE-HERB LIQUID EXTRACT: Made from the dried herb (aerial parts) of Artemisia vulgaris, carrying the plant's natural spectrum of constituents rather than an isolated or standardized single compound.

  •

ALCOHOL-FREE, GLYCERIN BASE: Our extract is 100% alcohol-free, made with a smooth vegetable glycerin base and purified water.

  •

A CULINARY AROMATIC BITTER: Mugwort is a classic aromatic bitter herb - the same plant known in Japan as yomogi.

  •

MUGWORT, NOT WORMWOOD: This is Artemisia vulgaris, distinct from Artemisia absinthium (wormwood) and from Artemisia annua (sweet wormwood, Qing Hao).

  •

CLEARLY LABELED: Labeled by botanical name and plant part, so there is no confusion with the other Artemisia species or with culinary yomogi paste and powder.

Artemisia vulgaris - Common Mugwort, Yomogi

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is a familiar wayside herb with silvery-backed, deeply divided leaves and a clean, aromatic bitterness. It has long had a place in the kitchen, from European roasts to Japanese yomogi. Our Mugwort extract captures the dried herb in a concentrated, alcohol-free liquid.

About our Mugwort Extract:

We start with quality mugwort herb and, unlike alcohol-based products, our formula is 100% alcohol-free, using a gentle vegetable glycerin base that helps preserve the herb's constituents. It is a whole-herb extract - not an isolate - carrying the plant's natural profile. This is specifically Artemisia vulgaris, the common mugwort.

Suggested use: Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to three times a day, or as directed by your practitioner. Drink the entire contents.*

Frequently Asked Questions about Mugwort Extract
What is Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) herb extract?
Mugwort is a tall, aromatic perennial of the daisy or aster family (Asteraceae), botanically Artemisia vulgaris and commonly called common mugwort. The part used here is the herb - the leafy aerial parts. Mugwort has a long history as a culinary and aromatic bitter herb: in European cooking it has traditionally been used to season rich, fatty foods, and in Japan it is known as yomogi and used in foods such as mochi. Our extract is offered in two forms - an alcohol-free glycerite and a traditional alcohol-based tincture - each from ethically sourced raw material. The herb naturally carries aromatic bitter compounds that give it its characteristic taste. This is a whole-herb liquid extract that carries the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single-compound product, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free and tincture versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Artemisia vulgaris herb; only the solvent differs. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. Both deliver the herb's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol; choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life.
Is mugwort the same as wormwood, and which Artemisia is it?
It is easy to mix up the Artemisia plants, so here is the distinction. Our product is Artemisia vulgaris, common mugwort. It is a different plant from Artemisia absinthium, which is called wormwood and is the intensely bitter herb associated with certain spirits; and it is also different from Artemisia annua, the sweet wormwood known in Chinese herbalism as Qing Hao, which we offer separately. All three are in the same genus but are distinct species with different characters. As for form, mugwort is also used in cooking - for example as Japanese yomogi paste or powder - whereas our product is a liquid extract of the herb that you take by the drop. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Artemisia vulgaris) and plant part (herb) so there is no confusion with wormwood, sweet wormwood, or the culinary forms.
How do I use Mugwort liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. See the safety note below. Drink the entire contents.
Is Mugwort extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Mugwort is not right for everyone. Do not use it during pregnancy - mugwort is traditionally avoided in pregnancy because it can affect the uterus and the menstrual cycle. Because it is in the daisy family (Asteraceae), people who are allergic to plants such as ragweed, daisies, marigolds, or chrysanthemums may also react to it, so use caution if you have these sensitivities. It is best used in moderation and for short periods rather than continuously. If you are nursing, take any medication, or have a medical condition, talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving. This alcohol-free glycerite is best refrigerated after opening. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
