Spirulina is a variety of cyanobacteria in the Oscillatoraceae family. It is often referred to as a blue-green algae, though it is actually a living organism. It can be found both in ocean waters and in lakes.  Spirulina is considered one of the most nutrient-rich foods on the planet. Aztecs were the first people to use spirulina. People have been eating spirulina for centuries on the American continents and in Africa, but research into the composition and properties of this product began only 30 years ago.

Being one of the oldest forms of life on our planet, spirulina hasn’t changed or evolved like other organisms for millions of years. That’s because it is quite unique and can exist in different conditions.

Spirulina is mainly used as a source of dietary protein, iron, and B vitamins.

  • Omega-6 fatty acids
  • Omega-9 fatty acids
  • Minerals (calcium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, selenium)

Spirulina for Face

In cosmetology, spirulina powder is used to prepare a variety of face masks. Moreover, spirulina extract is a popular ingredient of face creams.

Spirulina Mask Recipe

What you need:

  • 1 tbsp of spirulina powder
  • 1 tbsp of organic honey

Mix the ingredients and apply the mixture to the clean skin of your face and neck. Leave the mask for about 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water.
