Chia seeds are regarded as one of the most beneficial products on our planet as they are loaded with vitamins, minerals and other health-giving substances. Chia seeds are extremely nutritious and energy-boosting. It’s not for nothing the word “chia” in the ancient Mayan language means “strength”.Chia, or Salvia hispanica, is an annual flowering plant that belongs to the Lameaceae family. It is native to Mexico and Guatemala. The plant is usually about 1.75 m tall. The leaves are oppositely arranged, the flowers are usually white or purple. The seeds are tiny, about 1 mm in diameter, and oval. They can be brown, black, grey or white.

Chia seeds are very versatile so you can add them to soups, salads and drinks, and also use them as a ‘seasoning’ when roasting fish or meat. Unlike some other “superfoods”, chia has no strong taste or strong flavor so you can use the seeds in your favorite recipes as you please.
